Launch: Manufactum Cradle to Cradle Products

Pioneering work - it took almost a year of development to turn the selected products from the Manufactum cooperation project with the AMD Master's program "Sustainability in Fashion" into reality, according to the Cradle to Cradle® principles. The Beneficial Design Institute has accompanied this process in finding the right ingredients and developing the products as well as the return system and the reuse of the materials for the biological cycle.

Two products from the study project on circular active wear made it into the Manufactum range: the women's vest "Wanderlust" by designer Ida Urmas and the men's jacket "Modern Gentleman" by designer Ricardo Garay. Both models are biodegradable based on the Lauffenmühle material consisting of 70 percent Infinito (a biodegradable polymer) and 30 percent Tencel. Buttons and metal parts for the two products were newly sourced and certified specifically for the project. The manufacturer was also certified for the project. Yarn and care chains were already available in Lauffenmühle's toolbox for Cradle to Cradle certified ingredients.

The men's jacket can be worn in different ways, it can be closed at the sides or in the middle, the collar has a buttonable storm flap and a fold-out splash guard in the back. The jacket is completely geared to the biological cycle, all ingredients and constituents are safe for biological systems and biodegradable; it has therefore achieved the gold status of the certification "Cradle to Cradle Certified™".

The women's vest also adapts to different occasions of daily adventures: The patch pockets can be removed and can transformed into a shoulder bag with a carrying strap. Unlike the men's vest, metal parts are also processed here, the slider in the zipper and the snap hooks. They are attached in such a way that they can be easily removed for a later re-use of the materials. The women's vest has achieved the silver status of the certification "Cradle to Cradle Certified™".
